About

Dr. Rakima Parson is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. She earned a PhD in Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences from the University of Texas Health Science 亚洲自慰视频, a Master of Science in Counseling from the University of North Texas (CACREP-accredited), and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Louisiana State University.

Dr. Parson has extensive clinical experience working with adults, families, children, and adolescents across private practice, school, and university settings. With most of her counseling work rooted in educational environments, she has developed a specialized understanding of play therapy and child-parent relationship therapy in school mental health contexts. Her clinical expertise informs her public health research, which spans several critical areas in mental and public health, including university faculty wellbeing, behavioral threat assessment in K–12 schools, the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, and strategies for burnout prevention.

Known for her commitment to advocacy and community engagement, Dr. Parson consistently steps beyond the traditional boundaries of clinical work to serve as a force for change and equity. During the 86th Texas Legislative Session, she advocated for mental health policies as a member of the Texas Counseling Association’s Public Policy Committee. She has been an invited speaker at conferences and events hosted by organizations such as the American Counseling Association (ACA), the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), and the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute.

Currently, she serves on the board of Any Baby Can, a nonprofit that supports whole-family wellness. She previously served as treasurer of the Hill Country Chapter of the Texas Association for Play Therapy and was a committee member for the Leben Play Therapy Symposium. Dr. Parson embraces the responsibility of advocacy, outreach, and training, and is dedicated to fostering meaningful partnerships that improve mental health systems across Texas.
